Farmland for Farmers Act Aims To Protect Producers

$1.625 billion in specialty crop payments open for enrollment June 1 through Aug. 31—eligible producers should apply now since payments are issued to those who qualify. Grants & Funding

$6 million available for health care services in Delta regions, due Jun 1. Four USDA marketing programs (farmers markets, local food, specialty crops, regional food systems) open through Jun 5-8—may apply directly if you sell locally or grow specialty crops. Check deadlines; most require matching funds.

Recent USDA Awards

Lincoln County grabbed $191M for Emergency Watershed Protection work, with three other counties and cities splitting another $48M across the same program plus wildfire defense and conservation partnerships. Check if your county applied—these funds may still be moving and could affect water infrastructure or land management costs near you.

Subsidy Payments

$16.2 billion flowed to farmers nationally last year, with top counties in Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota capturing the biggest shares. Corn and soybean operations pulled most of it. Worth checking your county's breakdown—your neighbor's probably getting a different mix than you are.

Drought Status

$3.2 billion in LFP payments may be affected if drought declarations expand beyond current 1,847 counties. USDA's monitoring 47% of the country's abnormally dry conditions heading into spring planting. Check your county's drought status now—it determines crop insurance payouts and emergency program eligibility.
